Relax Yourself: Ways To Change Your Life // MarissaLev

This summer I have spent quite a lot of time trying new things and travelling new places, along with sitting on the couch eating popsicles.  I will say that I've had one of the greatest summers so far.  Rather than always worrying about making plans or seeing my friends, I spent a lot of time alone just enjoying time with myself, which can be good sometimes.  I have seen my friends this summer and I enjoyed every second of seeing them, but I love the days where I'm home alone so I can try new crafts, read new books, and make really artsy looking food.  Today I'm going share some things that I've been doing over the summer that have really relaxed me and made me a lot happier! Enjoy :)

1.  Eat something healthy! We all hate healthy eating, we all want to splurge on Taco Bell.  Somtimes it can feel nice to treat your body right and eat something that won't make you feel terrible later.  I've gone for blackberry yogurt along with fresh strawberries and blueberries on top.  This is very healthy and makes for a picture perfect snack!

2.  Change your hair part.  This may seem a bit crazy at first, I mean how can you change your life by just changing your hair part? Let me tell you, at the beginning of summer I changed my hair part and my hair has never been better. I recently went from a right part to my natural part which is closer to the middle but slightly to the right.  I have found my natural part to be so relieving, if my hair gets blown in the wind or I wake up with crazy hair my part is extremely easy to find.  If you don't like your natural part just try parting your hair to a new side.  Believe it or not your look will immediately change, sometimes all you need to freshen up your look is a new hair part.

3. Spend time outside.  Spending time outside is one of the best ways to relax and stop worrying about things in your life.  Recently, I was sitting outside with my family at night and we were just listening to all the sounds of the night.  For example, the crickets and frogs and other creatures.  I absolutely love spending time outside, away from my phone just so I can relax.

4.  Spend time doing something you love.  This summer I spent time singing and going to different musicals and productions.  I love theatre and I am involved in theatre, so seeing other people perform is such a joy.  I love singing so practicing and attending voice lessons is always my favorite thing to do when I'm home alone. Try doing something you thoroughly enjoy!

5. Unfollow sad or depressing accounts on social media platforms.  Let's admit it,  we have all followed accounts that stimulate bad thoughts in our mind.  Sad and depressing accounts are all over, they produce upsetting quotes and black and white photos that are worth crying over.  Depressing acounts are just there to promote that daily dose of sadness, how many people when asked would rather have a daily dose of sadness over a daily dose of happiness?  No one.  Instead, find accounts that give you a joyful feeling when you scroll through your feed in the morning, whether that be delicious food accounts, an empowering quotes account, or even a cute animal account.  Social media is something we cannot ignore these days, most of our emotions are stimulated by social media.  We should want happy emotions, unfollowing sad accounts can really help to improve your everyday attitude.

6. Drink more water.  Not getting enough water during the day is not only bad for your health, but it's bad for your everyday attitude.  You can develop headaches and be tired if you don't get the proper amount of water.  Other serious problems can occur if you don't get the right amount of water as well.  I usually drink 3-4 glasses a day but the reccomended amount is 8 classes a day, even I'm behind on the amount of water to drink!  Another great thing about water is that it fills you up.  Sometimes when you think your still hungry, it's just because you are probably thirsty, water can prevent you from over indulging on unhealthy foods.  Remember to always drink your water!

7.  Lastly, read a book!  My school requires several books that high school students should read during the summer and then when we come back to school we are tested over them.  Due to summer reading I haven't been able to enjoy pleasure books, but I did thoroughly enjoy my summer reading books even if they weren't my own choice of book to read.  One book that I've had for about a year but never got to reading is If I Stay by Gayle Forman.  I saw the movie before purchasing the book, but I was extremely impressed on how the movie reflects the book.  It's a book worth reading, it's very different from a typical love story.  Although the movie depicts Adam and Mia's relationship as a cute, lovey-dovey relationship, the book doesn't emphasize their relationship, rather it emphasizes Mia's life in general.  I liked that aspect because sometimes love stories can get too out of hand, this book didn't spend too much time emphasizing their relationship.  I loved the book and plan on reading the sequel Where She Went.  And of course, who can't read a book without a sweet treat?

These are some ways that I have relaxed and destressed over the summer.  School can promote a lot of stress and worrying, these are ways to be happy and calmed before school.  Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed!!
